Best Software for Indian Firms Serving US and UK Clients (2026)

By the MyPract team Updated 13 min read

Short answer: There is no single best tool for Indian firms that do US and UK bookkeeping and tax preparation. MyPract, built for cross-border teams, is the best fit for running the offshore team itself at a rupee price: time with approvals, invoices in each client's currency, per-client access limits and an AI assistant. Karbon is better for firms that work through shared email with overseas clients, TaxDome for firms that run the end-client portal with e-signature and payments, and Financial Cents, Uku, Xero Practice Manager or IRIS when the work centres on QuickBooks Online, EU hosting, Xero or HMRC.

Last updated 22 October 2026. MyPract is our product, so every competitor claim links to its source and we say where each competitor is stronger. Pound and Australian-dollar prices are converted to US dollars at ECB cross rates for 13 October 2026, and MyPract's US-dollar plans are set against the global tools. See "How we checked" below.

Indian firms that serve US CPAs and UK accountancy practices usually run two layers of software. The client work, such as bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online or Xero and US or UK tax preparation, often happens inside the overseas client's own systems. The firm's own practice tool runs the team: who is working on which client, how many hours went in, whether a manager approved them, and the invoice that goes out in dollars or pounds. This guide is about that second layer.

Which software is best for Indian firms serving US and UK clients?

Tool Best for Published price ≈ US$ per user a year Time and billing Client portal Hosting and security (as published)
MyPract Running a cross-border team and billing overseas clients from approved time ₹12,000/year for the first 5 users, then ₹4,800 per user for users 6–30 and ₹4,000 per user for users 31+ (billed in India); Startup $189/year for up to 5 users, Growing $49 and Enterprise $39 per user per year (billed outside India) US$49 at 10 users on the US-dollar plans Timer, timesheets, approvals, period locks, rate rules, invoices in each client's currency One link per engagement, emailed code; portal clients free Data domicile by country: a paying firm outside India gets its own in-country instance; today Mumbai (AWS ap-south-1) through Supabase; row-level security; no SSO

Dollar figures are per user per year; pound and Australian-dollar prices are converted at ECB cross rates for 13 October 2026 (£1 = US$1.32, A$1 = US$0.70) and exclude bank forex charges and 18% GST on imported services. MyPract's US-dollar plans are the like-for-like figure against the global tools; a firm billed in India, which is where an Indian outsourcing firm is billed, pays the rupee price in the same row instead.

What does an offshore accounting team actually need from its own software?

Most Indian firms doing US and UK work need five things from their own tool, and only some need it to talk to US or UK systems:

  1. Time you can defend. Overseas clients are often billed per hour or per full-time equivalent, so time has to be captured, reviewed and locked before it becomes an invoice.
  2. Invoices in dollars and pounds. The firm bills its US or UK client, not the end taxpayer, usually monthly.
  3. Client separation. A team member working for one US CPA firm should not see another CPA firm's clients.
  4. A secure way to exchange files, either your own portal or the client's.
  5. A security story the overseas client will accept, including where data sits and who can reach it.

Integrations with QuickBooks Online, Xero, IRS transcripts or Companies House matter mainly if your firm, not your client, owns the relationship with the end taxpayer.

1. MyPract: best for running the offshore team at a rupee price

MyPract is a global, AI-native practice management platform built for cross-border accounting, audit, tax and advisory teams. The parts that matter for an outsourcing firm:

  • Data domicile by country: a paying firm outside India gets its own instance in its country, so its database, files and server functions stay in-country. Today, with customers in India, everything runs in Mumbai (AWS ap-south-1) through Supabase.
  • Time and approvals. Weekly timesheets and a timer, billable and non-billable. Managers approve time and lock past periods so approved hours can't change. Rate rules can be set per workspace, member, client or engagement, and utilisation is measured against each person's weekly capacity.
  • Invoices in each client's currency. Managers build invoices from approved, unbilled billable time, and each client can be invoiced in its own currency, so a US CPA firm gets a dollar invoice and a UK practice a pound invoice. MyPract does not collect payments.
  • Client separation. Owners and Admins can limit any Manager, Staff or Viewer to selected clients; those people then see only those clients' engagements, tasks, time, documents and invoices, including in reports, search and the AI assistant. Access is enforced in the database with row-level security.
  • Client portal. One link per engagement, opened only by the contacts mapped to it after a 6-digit code sent to their email. Portal clients are not charged as users.
  • AI inside the workspace. The assistant answers from every module and creates clients, engagements, tasks, time and invoices only after confirmation, within the user's role; Claude and ChatGPT can connect through MCP.
  • Audit trail. An activity log with filters and CSV export, and a trash for restoring deleted items.

Price: ₹12,000/year for the first 5 users, then ₹4,800 per user for users 6–30 and ₹4,000 per user for users 31+, billed annually in rupees, excluding GST. A 12-person firm pays ₹12,000 + 7 × ₹4,800 = ₹45,600/year + GST. Every user gets every module, there is no setup fee in India, and the 3-month trial needs no card. Firms billed outside India pay in US dollars, Startup $189/year for up to 5 users, Growing $49 and Enterprise $39 per user per year, with a one-time setup fee for teams of 14 or fewer, waived if you pay during the trial.

Where others are stronger: MyPract has no QuickBooks, Xero, US or UK tax integrations, no e-signature, no payment collection, no email triage and no public API. Sign-in is email and password only, with no SSO or Google sign-in. Our published facts don't include a SOC 2 or ISO 27001 report, which some US clients ask for; Karbon and TaxDome publish SOC 2 Type II. AI features send the text they work on to Anthropic's API outside India; Owners and Admins can switch AI off, which you may want for US taxpayer data. Full module list on our features page.

2. Karbon: best for firms that work through email with overseas clients

Karbon's Team plan includes integrated email, workflow, time tracking and budget reporting, billing, payments and engagements, with a client portal and document management on every plan.[1] Its security page says the web application is SOC 2 Type 2 certified and data is encrypted with AES-256 at rest; it does not name a hosting region.[2] Automatic client reminders and industry integrations need Business at US$89 per user a month.[1]

Karbon is stronger than MyPract when your US or UK clients send work by email and your team needs a shared inbox, or when a SOC 2 report is a condition of the contract. It costs far more: US$7,080 a year for 10 users on Team. The same team is US$490 a year on MyPract's US-dollar plans, under 7% of that. Detail in MyPract vs Karbon and Karbon alternatives.

3. TaxDome: best if you run the end-client portal yourself

TaxDome bundles a branded client portal and app, e-signatures, proposals and payments, and integrates with IRS transcripts, US tax software, QuickBooks Online and Companies House.[3][4] It tracks time with a timer and turns billable time into invoices from a WIP list.[6] TaxDome says it has SOC 2 Type II certification.[5]

It suits Indian firms that own the relationship with US or UK end clients, for example a firm with its own US entity that collects documents, signatures and fees directly. The price is the hurdle: Pro is US$900 per seat a year only on a 3-year term, billed upfront.[3]

See MyPract vs TaxDome.

4. Financial Cents: best for small QuickBooks Online bookkeeping teams

Financial Cents connects to QuickBooks Online on every plan, with client requests, time tracking, invoicing and retainers; Xero connects through Zapier.[7] It says its servers are in New York City and Virginia.[8] For a small Indian team doing monthly US bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online, that integration is a real advantage over MyPract. All plans carry a 12-month agreement.[7] See MyPract vs Financial Cents.

5. Uku: best for UK-facing firms that want EU hosting

Uku prices in US dollars, euros and pounds, includes time tracking, billing and a client portal from Solo up, and hosts data in EU data centres. It has no long-term contracts, and its pricing page says it is SOC 2 Type I audited.[9] Paid onboarding packages run from US$700.[9]

See MyPract vs Uku.

6. Xero Practice Manager and IRIS: best when the UK work runs on Xero or HMRC

If your UK clients are on Xero, Xero Practice Manager handles jobs, time and invoicing and is free at Silver partner status.[10] IRIS Elements is built for UK firms working with HMRC, Making Tax Digital and Companies House.[11] See MyPract vs Xero Practice Manager and MyPract vs IRIS.

What data rules apply when US and UK client data comes to India?

Three rules shape your choice of tool more than any feature list:

  • US: section 7216 consent. A US preparer generally may not disclose tax return information without the taxpayer's prior written consent, and may disclose a Social Security number to a preparer outside the US only if it travels with an adequate data protection safeguard.[12] Your US client carries the obligation, but it will ask how your systems protect the data. Masking SSNs in anything stored in your own practice tool is a sensible default.
  • UK: restricted transfers. When a UK firm sends personal data to a separate company overseas, the transfer needs UK adequacy regulations, an appropriate safeguard such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or the Addendum (with a transfer risk assessment), or an exception.[13] Expect your UK clients to send you one of these agreements.
  • India: the DPDP Act exemption. Section 17(1)(d) of the DPDP Act 2023 disapplies most of the Act when data of people outside India is processed under a contract with a person outside India, but section 8(5), the duty to take reasonable security safeguards, still applies.[14]

For questions to ask any vendor, see India-hosted practice software.

Who should not choose MyPract

  • Firms that own the end-client relationship in the US or UK and need e-signature, proposals, payment collection or a client mobile app. TaxDome is the better fit.
  • Firms whose contracts require a SOC 2 report or SSO. Karbon and TaxDome publish SOC 2 Type II; MyPract offers neither SSO nor Google sign-in.
  • Firms that need QuickBooks Online, Xero, IRS or HMRC integrations in their own tool. Financial Cents, Xero Practice Manager, IRIS or TaxDome fit better.
  • Teams that run on shared email. MyPract has no email triage; Karbon is built around it.
  • Clients that insist on in-country hosting today. Data domicile by country: a paying firm outside India gets its own instance in its country, so its database, files and server functions stay in-country. Today, with customers in India, everything runs in Mumbai (AWS ap-south-1) through Supabase, and the in-country instance comes with a paid subscription.
  • Firms that need automated client reminders, recurring invoices, a public API or Zapier. MyPract has none of these.

MyPract is the right pick when the client work happens in your clients' systems and what you need is tight time, approvals, client separation, invoicing in dollars and pounds and an AI assistant, at a rupee price. How we checked

On 14 October 2026 we checked Karbon's pricing and security pages, Uku's pricing page, TaxDome's security and time-billing pages, US Treasury regulation 301.7216-3, the ICO's guide to international transfers and the DPDP Act 2023 as published by MeitY. TaxDome's pages blocked automated reading, so those entries rely on the text of its own pages as shown in search results; confirm with TaxDome. TaxDome, Financial Cents, Xero and IRIS prices come from our head-to-head comparisons, verified against vendor pages on 13 October 2026. Pound and Australian-dollar prices are converted to US dollars at ECB cross rates for 13 October 2026 (£1 = US$1.32, A$1 = US$0.70); dollar figures exclude bank forex charges and 18% GST on imported services. Against non-Indian products we use MyPract's US-dollar plans, which apply to firms billed outside India, rather than its rupee price. MyPract facts come from our facts page. Frequently asked questions

What software do Indian outsourcing firms use for US and UK clients?

Usually two layers. The client work (bookkeeping, tax returns) is often done in the overseas client's own ledger and tax software, through logins or remote desktop. The firm then runs its own team and billing in a practice tool such as Karbon, TaxDome, Financial Cents, Uku or MyPract, chosen by how it works with clients and where it wants data hosted.

Does MyPract integrate with QuickBooks, Xero or US and UK tax software?

No. MyPract has no ledger or US, UK or Australian tax software integrations, no e-signature and no payment collection. It runs engagements, time with approvals, invoices from approved time in each client's currency, documents and a client portal.

Can an Indian firm invoice US and UK clients in dollars and pounds from MyPract?

Yes. Each client can be invoiced in its own currency, and invoices are built from approved, billable time. MyPract does not collect the payment, so clients pay by your usual bank or payment route.

Do US clients need consent before sending tax data to India?

Under US Treasury regulation 301.7216-3, a US tax return preparer generally needs the taxpayer's written consent before disclosing tax return information, and for individual (Form 1040 series) returns a Social Security number may go to a preparer outside the US only with an adequate data protection safeguard. This is the US firm's obligation, but your security setup is part of what it relies on.

Does the DPDP Act apply to foreign client data processed in India?

Section 17(1)(d) of the DPDP Act 2023 exempts most of the Act where data of people outside India is processed in India under a contract with a person outside India. The duty to take reasonable security safeguards in section 8(5) still applies. This is general information, not legal advice.
