Best Karbon Alternatives for Accounting Firms Outside the US (2026)

By the MyPract team Updated 11 min read

Short answer: The best Karbon alternative depends on where your firm is. UK firms should look at IRIS Elements for HMRC and Companies House work, Xero Practice Manager if clients are on Xero, or Uku for EU hosting and pound pricing. Australian and New Zealand firms can get Xero Practice Manager or MYOB Practice free at qualifying partner status. TaxDome suits firms that want e-signature, proposals and payments in one tool, CCH iFirm larger multi-office firms, and MyPract cross-border teams that want AI-native engagement, time and billing at a much lower price. Stay with Karbon if your team works through shared email.

Last updated 22 October 2026. MyPract is our product, so every competitor claim links to its source and we say where Karbon is stronger. Pound and Australian-dollar prices are converted to US dollars at ECB cross rates for 13 October 2026, and MyPract's US-dollar plans are set against non-Indian products. See "How we checked" below.

Karbon is a collaboration-first practice platform built around a shared inbox that turns client emails into tracked work. It says it has customers in 34 countries,[1] and its pricing page offers Australian, Canadian, New Zealand and US dollars, euros, pounds, rand and reais.[2] So firms outside the US don't leave Karbon because it is unavailable. They look elsewhere for local tax and ledger workflows, data location, price, or because they want to try a product rather than book a demo.

MyPract's rupee price applies only to firms billed in India; everyone else pays its US-dollar plans, which is the figure to set against the other tools here.

Why do firms outside the US look for a Karbon alternative?

  • Local compliance. Karbon's industry integrations sit on the Business plan,[2] and its strength is collaboration rather than any one country's tax system. UK firms often want HMRC and Companies House workflows, and Australian and New Zealand firms want ATO and IRD lodgement close to their practice tool.
  • Free ledger-linked tools. Xero and MYOB partners can get practice management at no licence cost, which is hard for any paid tool to beat.[7][8]
  • Price. Team is US$59 per user a month on annual billing, and monthly billing (US$79) is only for teams of four or more.[2] Automatic client reminders need Business at US$89.[2]
  • Data location. Karbon's security page describes SOC 2 Type 2 certification and AES-256 encryption but does not name a hosting region.[6] Firms with UK, EU or Indian data obligations often want a stated region.
  • Trial. Karbon's pricing page leads to a demo, with no free trial mentioned.[2]

1. TaxDome: best all-in-one for firms that bill end clients directly

TaxDome bundles a branded client portal and app, e-signatures, proposals and payments, with integrations including QuickBooks Online and Companies House.[3][4] If your Karbon pain is juggling separate tools for proposals, signatures and payment collection, TaxDome is the closest one-subscription answer. The trade-off is the term: Pro is US$900 per seat a year only on a 3-year commitment, billed upfront, and US$1,000 on one year.[3]

See MyPract vs TaxDome.

2. Uku: best for UK and EU firms that want EU hosting

Uku prices in pounds, euros and dollars, hosts data in EU data centres and says there are no long-term contracts.[5] Time tracking, billing and a client portal are included from Solo up, and BI analytics, workforce management and a public API come on Elite at £39 per member a month.[5] The 14-day trial needs no card. Paid onboarding packages start at US$700 for up to four members.[5]

See MyPract vs Uku.

3. Xero Practice Manager: best for Xero partner firms

Xero says Practice Manager is now part of Xero Partner Hub, alongside Xero Tax and Xero Workpapers, and it is free at Silver partner status and above. Below that, Xero Australia lists A$149 a month before GST for up to 10 users.[7] It covers jobs, time, invoicing and WIP. Its limits: it is built around clients on Xero, and Xero's page doesn't mention a client portal. See MyPract vs Xero Practice Manager.

4. MYOB Practice: best for Australian and New Zealand MYOB partners

MYOB Practice is free through the MYOB Partner Program and includes a client portal with digital signatures.[8] In Australia, BAS and tax lodgement run through MYOB's practice compliance tools.[9] Seat-based pricing for its practice management product is not published. See MyPract vs MYOB Practice.

5. IRIS Elements: best for UK compliance-led firms

IRIS Elements Practice Management starts at £28 per user a month, with a 30-day trial, and is built for UK firms working with HMRC, Making Tax Digital and Companies House.[10] Proposals and AML checks are separate pay-per-use IRIS products.[10] See MyPract vs IRIS.

6. CCH iFirm: best for larger multi-office firms

Wolters Kluwer sells CCH iFirm with capacity planning and jobs linked to invoices, and says more than 400 CA firms in India and South Asia use it.[11] Capterra lists it for firms in Canada, the UK, India, Australia, New Zealand and South-east Asia.[12] Pricing is by quote, so ask for the billing currency and hosting region in writing. See MyPract vs CCH iFirm.

7. MyPract: best for cross-border teams that want AI-native workflow and billing

MyPract is a global, AI-native practice management platform for accounting, audit, tax and advisory teams, from a solo practitioner to firms of more than 30 people, built for cross-border teams and clients. Work runs as engagements with tasks, subtasks, dependencies and checklists; staff log time, managers approve it and lock past periods, and invoices are built from approved billable time, in each client's own currency. An AI assistant answers from every module, because there is one data model, and creates clients, engagements, tasks, time and invoices only after you confirm; Claude and ChatGPT can be connected as agents through MCP, and the AI is bound by the same six roles as people. A free client portal opens with an emailed code, with nothing to install. Indian firms also get a DSC register and read-only GST portal data.

  • Price in India: ₹12,000/year for the first 5 users, then ₹4,800 per user for users 6–30 and ₹4,000 per user for users 31+. A 12-person firm pays ₹12,000 + 7 × ₹4,800 = ₹45,600/year + GST. No setup fee and annual billing.
  • Price outside India: Startup $189/year for up to 5 users, Growing $49 and Enterprise $39 per user per year, plus a one-time setup fee for teams of up to 14 users, waived if you pay during the trial.
  • Trial: 3 months, opt-in, no card, never converts automatically.
  • Data domicile by country: a paying firm outside India gets its own instance in its country, so its database, files and server functions stay in-country. Today, with customers in India, everything runs in Mumbai (AWS ap-south-1) through Supabase.

Against Karbon, a 10-user team pays US$490 a year on MyPract's US-dollar plans, or US$589 in year one if the setup fee applies, and gets time approvals, period locks and the AI assistant. Karbon Team costs US$7,080 a year for the same 10 users, about 14 times the licence price and about 12 times the year-one price. Karbon is stronger on email triage, automation, automatic client reminders, integrations and a published SOC 2 report. See our pricing and features.

Who should not choose MyPract

MyPract is the wrong Karbon replacement if you need any of these:

  • UK, Australian, New Zealand and Canadian firms that need HMRC, ATO or IRD workflows, or Xero, QuickBooks or MYOB integration. MyPract has none.
  • Teams that run on shared email. MyPract has no email triage.
  • Firms that need automation: automatic client reminders, recurring invoices, automatic creation of the next recurring task, a public API or Zapier. MyPract offers none of these.
  • Firms that need e-signature, proposals or payment collection. TaxDome or a proposals tool fits better.
  • Firms outside India that need in-country data today, or SSO. Data domicile by country: a paying firm outside India gets its own instance in its country, so its database, files and server functions stay in-country. Today, with customers in India, everything runs in Mumbai (AWS ap-south-1) through Supabase, and the in-country instance comes with a paid subscription. MyPract uses email and password sign-in only.

When should you stay with Karbon?

Stay with Karbon if your team lives in a shared inbox and you use triage to turn client emails into work, if you rely on Business-plan automation and integrations, or if a SOC 2 Type 2 report is a client requirement.[2][6] Moving a firm's working habits costs more than most licence savings. If price is the only issue, compare the full cost first, including forex and tax for firms paying in a foreign currency: our guide to the true cost of global practice software works through examples. How we checked

On 14 October 2026 we checked Karbon's pricing and security pages and Uku's pricing page. TaxDome, Xero, MYOB, IRIS and CCH iFirm details come from our head-to-head comparisons, verified against vendor pages on 13 October 2026; TaxDome's pages block automated reading, so we relied on their text as shown in search results. Karbon shows prices in several currencies; we quote its US-dollar prices. Pound and Australian-dollar prices are converted to US dollars at ECB cross rates for 13 October 2026 (£1 = US$1.32, A$1 = US$0.70); figures exclude bank forex charges and GST, VAT or sales tax. Against non-Indian products we use MyPract's US-dollar plans, which apply to firms billed outside India, rather than its rupee price. MyPract facts come from our facts page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Karbon alternative?

It depends on your country and ledger. UK firms: IRIS Elements, Uku or Xero Practice Manager. Australia and New Zealand: Xero Practice Manager or MYOB Practice, both free at qualifying partner status. All-in-one with e-signature and payments: TaxDome. Cross-border teams that want AI-native engagement, time and billing without email triage: MyPract, billed in US dollars outside India and in rupees in India.

Is Karbon available outside the US?

Yes. Karbon says it has customers in 34 countries, and its pricing page offers prices in Australian, Canadian, New Zealand and US dollars, euros, pounds, rand and reais. Rupees are not among them.

Does Karbon have a free trial?

Karbon's pricing page offers a demo and does not mention a free trial. Uku offers 14 days with no card, IRIS Elements 30 days, Xero Practice Manager 14 days and MyPract 3 months with no card.

Which Karbon alternative is cheapest outside the US?

If you qualify, Xero Practice Manager (Silver Xero partners) and MYOB Practice (MYOB Partner Program) are free. Among paid tools with published prices, Uku Team at £29 per member a month on annual billing is lower than Karbon Team. MyPract's US-dollar plans for firms billed outside India (Startup $189/year for up to 5 users, Growing $49 and Enterprise $39 per user per year) are lower still, but it has no local tax or ledger integrations.

Is MyPract a good Karbon alternative for a UK or Australian firm?

Usually not, if you need local tax or ledger workflows. MyPract has no HMRC, ATO, Xero, QuickBooks or MYOB integration, no email triage and no e-signature. It is a global, AI-native platform for teams anywhere that want engagements, approved time, invoices in each client's currency and an AI assistant in one workspace.
