Best Practice Management Software for Tax Consultants in India (2026)

By the MyPract team Updated 10 min read

Short answer: Most Indian tax consultants need two tools: a filing tool for returns and practice software to run the office. Jamku with Jamku Portal is the strongest pick if Income Tax, GST and TDS notices drive your week; ERPCA suits high-volume GST and TDS practices that want recurring tasks, client reminders and payment links; MyPract, a global, AI-native platform billed in rupees in India, suits GST-heavy practices that want read-only GST filing status and notices for every client, engagements, an AI assistant and billing from approved time. Saral TaxOffice is a filing tool, not office software.

Last updated 22 October 2026. Prices were checked on each vendor's own page (Jamku, Jamku Portal, ERPCA and Saral TaxOffice on 14 October 2026; Zoho Practice on 13 October 2026) and exclude 18% GST. MyPract is our product, so every competitor claim links to its source and we say where competitors are stronger.

A tax practice runs on volume and dates: GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B every month or quarter, TDS returns every quarter, the ITR season, advance tax, and a steady stream of notices. Whether you are a CA firm that does mostly tax, a GST practitioner or an income tax practitioner, the office problem is the same: knowing which client is pending, who is on it, what the department has asked for, and whether the fee has been raised. This guide is for tax practitioners in India, not only CAs. For the wider market, see our pillar guide to practice management software for CA firms.

Do tax consultants need practice software or filing software?

Usually both, because they do different jobs:

  • Filing software (Saral TaxOffice, Saral Income Tax and similar suites) computes tax and prepares and files returns, often in bulk.[6]
  • Practice management software runs the office around the filing: the client list, who is doing which return, due dates, documents, notices, time and fees.

None of the practice tools in this guide files income tax or TDS returns. That is why many practices keep a filing tool and add office software rather than replacing one with the other. Our explainer on practice management vs accounting vs tax vs audit software draws the lines in more detail, and Saral TaxOffice alternative covers the Saral case.

What does a tax practice need from its office software?

Test these in a trial, with your own client list:

  • A client master with PAN and GSTIN, imported from Excel with format and duplicate checks.
  • Recurring due dates and owners for GST, TDS, advance tax and ITR work, with a board that shows what is pending.
  • Notice tracking, ideally fed from the portals, with a reply date and an owner for each notice.
  • GST visibility: which clients have filed GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B, and where 2B and the purchase register disagree.
  • Document collection that doesn't depend on WhatsApp forwards.
  • A DSC register, because most tax practices hold clients' tokens.
  • Fees that go out on time, whether per return, retainer or by effort.
  • A trial long enough to cover one real return cycle.

How do the main options compare for tax consultants?

Jamku with Jamku Portal: best for notice tracking

Jamku is office management software that its vendor markets to CA and CS offices, with Android, iOS and desktop apps.[1] Its separate product, Jamku Portal, syncs data from the Income Tax, GST and TDS portals into one dashboard: notices, demands, proceedings, returns, refund status, UDIN tracking and DSC expiry.[3] Jamku Portal is priced by module (IT, GST or TDS), and portals with a captcha consume sync credits at 30 paise each.[2] Jamku itself costs ₹6,500 a year for up to 5 users, then ₹1,300 per user, plus a ₹3,000 setup fee up to 14 users.[1] For notice-heavy practices this is the most direct fit on this list. See MyPract vs Jamku.

ERPCA: best for high-volume recurring returns

ERPCA's page for tax consultants and GST practitioners describes GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, TDS and ITR tasks generated every period for every client, scheduled WhatsApp and email reminders to clients for pending data, notices tracked as tasks, and retainers invoiced automatically with a Razorpay payment link.[5] Its SaaS plan is ₹250 per user a month billed annually, with a minimum of 5 users, and includes a GST API, Tally and a client mobile app[4]. If you file hundreds of GST returns a month and want tasks to appear on their own, ERPCA is stronger than MyPract. See MyPract vs ERPCA.

MyPract: best for GST-heavy practices that bill from approved time

MyPract is a global, AI-native practice management platform for accounting, audit, tax and advisory teams, which bills Indian firms in rupees and adds India-specific modules. It runs clients, engagements, tasks, time, invoicing, documents and a client portal in one workspace, with an AI assistant that answers from every module and creates clients, engagements, tasks, time and invoices only after you confirm. For a tax practice, the parts that matter most:

  • GST portal data, read-only. Through a GSTN-licensed GST Suvidha Provider, MyPract shows GST registration and GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B filing status for every client with a GSTIN. After a client's GSTIN is connected with a one-time code, it turns portal notices into tasks, shows cash and credit ledger balances and GSTR-1 vs GSTR-3B differences, and reconciles GSTR-2B against the purchase register. Nothing is filed from MyPract.
  • Client import with checks. Up to 2,000 clients per Excel or CSV file, with GSTIN and PAN format, emails, phones and duplicates checked before saving.
  • Tasks and engagements. Each return or retainer can sit in an engagement with tasks, owners, due dates and list, Kanban and calendar views.
  • A DSC register with token custody (check out and in), signatory-to-client mapping and expiry status.
  • A client portal per engagement, where clients upload documents and send messages after an emailed 6-digit code. Portal clients are not charged.
  • Billing from approved time, if you charge by effort for notices, appeals or advisory work.
  • Data domicile by country: a paying firm outside India gets its own instance in its country, so its database, files and server functions stay in-country. Today, with customers in India, everything runs in Mumbai (AWS ap-south-1) through Supabase.

Price: ₹12,000/year for the first 5 users, then ₹4,800 per user for users 6–30 and ₹4,000 per user for users 31+, billed annually, no setup fee, with a 3-month opt-in trial that needs no card. See features and facts.

The limits that matter most for tax work: MyPract has no Income Tax or TRACES sync, does not file GST, income tax or TDS returns, does not create the next period's recurring tasks automatically, and does not send automated reminders to clients or collect payments.

Saral TaxOffice: best as a filing tool

Saral TaxOffice from Relyon costs ₹9,690 for a single user or ₹13,380 multi-user, and bundles bulk ITR and audit report filing, balance sheet preparation and client management; Saral Income Tax alone is ₹6,090 or ₹9,690.[6] It is Windows desktop software, so it pairs with a cloud office tool rather than replacing one.

Zoho Practice: best when clients use Zoho Books

Zoho Practice suits practices whose clients keep books on Zoho, with workpapers and ledgers linked to Zoho Books. It is free for Zoho Finance partners; otherwise Standard is ₹2,950 per organisation a month for up to 5 users, billed annually[7]. See MyPract vs Zoho Practice.

How much does each option cost a tax practice?

Year-one list price, excluding 18% GST.

Tool 5 users 10 users What the price assumes
Jamku ₹9,500 ₹16,000 ₹6,500 for 5 users, then ₹1,300 per user; ₹3,000 setup; Jamku Portal priced separately by module[1][2]
ERPCA SaaS ₹15,000 ₹30,000 ₹250 per user a month, billed annually, minimum 5 users[4]
MyPract ₹12,000 ₹36,000 Flat for the first 5 users, then per user; GST portal data and DSC register included; no setup fee
Zoho Practice Standard ₹35,400 ₹59,400 ₹35,400 for 5 users, plus ₹4,800 per extra user; free for Zoho Finance partners[7]
Saral TaxOffice (filing) ₹13,380 ₹13,380 Multi-user desktop licence; a filing tool, not office software[6]

Jamku costs less than MyPract at every team size, even with its setup fee. ERPCA costs more than MyPract up to 6 users and less from 7. A notice-heavy practice should add the cost of the Jamku Portal modules it needs. For every vendor in one table, see practice management software pricing in India; for small practices, the best software for small CA firms.

Which setup works for which kind of tax practice?

  • A solo GST practitioner with 50 to 150 clients: a filing tool plus MyPract or Jamku. MyPract's filing-status view shows at a glance which clients are still pending each month.
  • A five-to-ten person income tax practice handling notices and appeals: Jamku with the Jamku Portal IT and TDS modules.
  • A large GST and TDS practice with hundreds of monthly returns: ERPCA for recurring task generation and client reminders, or Jamku if price per head decides it.
  • A CA firm that does tax alongside audit and advisory, billing by effort: MyPract, with your existing filing tool.

All head-to-head comparisons are on the compare page.

Who should not choose MyPract

MyPract is not the right pick for a tax practice in these cases:

  • Income Tax or TDS notices are your main workload. MyPract has no Income Tax or TRACES sync; Jamku Portal covers both.
  • You want each month's return tasks to create themselves. MyPract doesn't create the next occurrence automatically; ERPCA does.
  • You want automatic reminders to clients, or WhatsApp. MyPract sends neither; ERPCA offers both.
  • You want clients to pay online. MyPract does not collect payments or send payment links; ERPCA does.
  • You need UDIN tracking or DSC expiry reminder emails. MyPract offers neither; Jamku Portal tracks UDIN and DSC expiry.
  • You want one tool that also files returns. No practice tool here files income tax or TDS returns, and MyPract files nothing.
  • Price per head decides it. Jamku costs less at every team size, and ERPCA from 7 users.
  • Your staff work mainly from phones. MyPract has no native mobile apps; Jamku and ERPCA do.

Frequently asked questions

What software do tax consultants in India use to manage their office?

Usually two kinds. A filing tool such as Saral TaxOffice prepares and files returns, and practice management software such as Jamku, ERPCA or MyPract tracks clients, due dates, tasks, documents and fees. Few tools do both well.

Which practice software tracks Income Tax and TDS notices?

Jamku Portal, a separate product from Jamku's office software, syncs notices, demands and returns from the Income Tax, GST and TDS portals, priced by module. MyPract reads GST portal data only and has no Income Tax or TRACES sync.

Can MyPract show which clients have filed GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B?

Yes. MyPract shows GST registration and GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B filing status for every client with a GSTIN, read-only, through a GSTN-licensed GST Suvidha Provider. After a client's GSTIN is connected with a one-time code, it also turns portal notices into tasks and shows ledgers and GSTR-2B reconciliation. It files nothing.

Is there a cheaper option than MyPract for a tax practice with 10 staff?

Yes, Jamku. At published prices, before GST, Jamku costs about ₹16,000 in year one for 10 users including setup. ERPCA costs ₹30,000 for 10 users. MyPract costs ₹36,000; ERPCA is cheaper from 7 users. See pricing.

Does practice software create monthly GST return tasks automatically?

Some does. ERPCA says its GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, TDS and ITR tasks are generated every period for every client. MyPract does not create the next occurrence of a recurring task automatically, so someone has to create or copy each period's tasks.

Try MyPract through a GST cycle

Import your client list and watch a month of GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B filing status before you pay. The trial is three months, needs no card and never converts to a paid plan automatically.
