Free Practice Management Software for CAs: What's Actually Free (2026)

By the MyPract team Updated 9 min read

Short answer: None of the CA-specific practice tools we checked has a free plan for an ordinary firm: Zoho Practice is free only for Zoho partners, and Jamku ended its free licence in 2018. What is actually free is general task tools' free plans (Trello, ClickUp, Asana, Zoho Projects), Zoho Invoice for billing, Odoo's One App Free plan, and spreadsheets. Most other "free" offers are trials; MyPract's runs 3 months, needs no card and never converts automatically, while most others run 14 days.

Last updated 22 October 2026. Every free plan and trial was checked on the vendor's own pages that day. MyPract is our product, so we link every competitor claim to its source and say where others are stronger.

"Free" means three different things in this market, and the difference matters more than the headline. A free plan has no end date but caps users, storage or features. A free trial is the paid product for a fixed period. A partner-free tool costs nothing only if you meet a vendor's partner conditions. This guide sorts the options into those three groups, lists the catch in each, and says when a spreadsheet really is enough. For the full paid market, see our pillar guide to practice management software for CA firms.

Which practice management software is actually free?

Tool What is free Limits Built for CA firms?
Zoho Practice Standard features for authorised and advanced Zoho partners; Premium features for premium partners[1] Partners only; everyone else pays per organisation and per user Yes, accounting practices
Zoho Invoice Free plan for Indian businesses[2] Up to 2 users, 500 invoices a year, 3 projects No, invoicing only
Trello Free plan[3] Up to 10 collaborators and 10 boards per workspace No, general task boards
ClickUp Free Forever plan[4] Unlimited members, 60MB storage; recurring tasks and full time tracking need a paid plan No, general work management
Asana Personal plan[5] 2 users No, general work management
Zoho Projects Free plan[6] Up to 5 users, 5 GB; no recurring tasks or timesheets No, general projects
monday.com Free plan[7] Up to 2 seats and 3 boards No, general work management
Odoo One App Free[8] One app (and the apps it needs), unlimited users, on Odoo Online No, general business suite
Google Sheets or Excel Anyone with a Google Account can create in Sheets[9] Everything is manual No

Two things stand out. First, every free plan that isn't partner-only is a general tool. You can run a CA practice on them, but you build the client records, compliance calendar and billing yourself. Second, the CA-specific vendors that once had free tiers have mostly moved on: Jamku's pricing page says it discontinued its free licence for offices of fewer than 3 users from 1 September 2018.[10]

What about the "free ERPCA plan"?

Some third-party listings describe a free 2-user ERPCA plan. ERPCA's own pricing page, checked on 14 October 2026, shows a SaaS plan at ₹250 per user a month billed annually with a minimum of 5 users, and offers a free trial, but no free plan.[11] Confirm with ERPCA before you plan around one. Our MyPract vs ERPCA comparison covers the detail.

Which free trials are worth running?

A trial is the only way to see paid CA software on your own clients without paying. The length and the terms differ a lot.

Tool Trial length Card needed? What happens at the end
MyPract 3 months, opt-in No Never converts automatically; workspace becomes read-only, data exportable for 30 days
Zoho Practice 14 days[1] Not stated Not stated
Financial Cents 14 days[12] No[12] No free plan to fall back to[12]
Zoho Projects 15 days on paid plans[6] No[6] A free plan exists for up to 5 users
monday.com 14 days on Pro[7] Not stated A free plan exists for up to 2 seats
Jetpack Workflow Free trial; length not stated on the pricing page[13] No[13] Not stated
ERPCA Free trial on SaaS; length not stated[11] Not stated No free plan shown
Karbon Demo; no free trial mentioned on the pricing page[14] — —

Fourteen days is rarely enough for a CA firm. A monthly GST cycle alone runs from the 11th (GSTR-1) to the 20th (GSTR-3B), so a two-week trial may not even cover one full cycle with real clients. A longer trial lets you run a full quarter, including TDS returns, before you commit. Our 90-day software trial plan for CA firms shows how to use one well. Our MyPract vs Zoho Practice comparison discusses this trade-off.

How MyPract's trial works

  • 3 months free, opt-in. The trial starts only when an Owner or Admin accepts the trial terms.
  • No card. No payment details are collected, and the trial never converts to a paid plan automatically.
  • At the end, the workspace becomes read-only until a plan is bought, and data stays available for export for 30 days.
  • If you never start it, a new workspace becomes read-only 30 days after it was created.

Every user gets every module during the trial: clients, engagements, tasks, time with approvals, invoicing, documents, the client portal, the DSC register and read-only GST portal data. After the trial the price is ₹12,000/year for the first 5 users, then ₹4,800 per user for users 6–30 and ₹4,000 per user for users 31+. See pricing for the full table.

That is a trial, not a free plan. If you need software that costs nothing indefinitely, MyPract is not it.

Can you run a CA practice on spreadsheets or open-source tools?

Spreadsheets

A shared Google Sheet or Excel file is where most firms start, and for a sole practitioner with a few dozen clients it can be enough. Google Sheets offers revision history and view, comment and edit permissions,[9] which covers the basics. The costs are hidden:

  • Every recurring date is typed by hand, for every client, every month.
  • No real ownership. Anyone with edit access can change a status, and it's hard to see later who marked a return as filed.
  • No link to time or billing. Hours worked on a client don't reach an invoice unless someone copies them.
  • Data control. Client PANs and GSTINs end up in personal drives and email attachments, which is awkward under the DPDP Act 2023. See our DPDP Act checklist for CA firms.

Open source and "free forever" business suites

Odoo describes itself as a suite of open-source business apps, and its One App Free plan gives unlimited users one app on Odoo Online, with no time limit.[8] Choose Project as that app and you get task boards with recurring tasks: Odoo creates the next task when the previous one is marked Done or Cancelled.[15] Adding a second app moves you to a paid plan.[8] It is capable, but it is a general business tool: there is no GSTIN or PAN client master, DSC register or GST filing status, and self-hosting open-source software means someone in your firm looks after servers, backups and security.

Where do free plans beat paid CA software?

Be fair to the free options. They genuinely win when:

  • You are one or two people with few clients. Trello's free plan or Asana Personal is enough to track work, and you pay nothing.
  • Your clients' books are in Zoho and you are a Zoho partner. Zoho Practice costs nothing and connects to their ledgers.[1]
  • You mainly need GST invoices. Zoho Invoice's free plan covers up to 2 users and 500 invoices a year.[2]
  • You want maximum flexibility. General tools let you model any process, with mature mobile apps and integrations.

And they fall short when several people share the work, recurring compliance dates multiply, you bill on effort, or you need staff limited to certain clients.

What does paid CA software cost once free runs out?

At published list prices, before 18% GST, for a 5-person firm: Jamku costs ₹6,500 a year plus a ₹3,000 one-time setup fee,[10] ERPCA's SaaS plan comes to ₹15,000 a year at its 5-user minimum,[11] and Zoho Practice Standard is ₹35,400 a year for non-partners.[1]

MyPract is ₹12,000 a year flat for up to 5 users, with no setup fee.

Who should not choose MyPract

  • You need software that is free indefinitely. MyPract has a 3-month trial, not a free plan.
  • You are a Zoho partner. Zoho Practice may cost you nothing.
  • You only need a task board. Trello, ClickUp or Asana's free plans may be enough.
  • You want recurring compliance tasks to generate themselves. MyPract doesn't create the next occurrence automatically; ERPCA and Zoho Practice list recurring tasks.
  • You need native mobile apps, WhatsApp, attendance, Tally or payment collection. MyPract has none of these.
  • Price decides it. Jamku costs less at published prices at every team size.
  • You're a US, UK or Australian firm. Partner-free tools tied to your clients' accounting software will usually serve you better.

How we checked

On 14 October 2026 we checked each vendor's own pricing and help pages: Zoho Practice (India), Zoho Invoice (India), Trello, ClickUp, Asana, Zoho Projects, monday.com, Odoo (pricing and recurring-task documentation), Google Sheets, Jamku, ERPCA, Financial Cents, Jetpack Workflow and Karbon. ERPCA's pricing page had changed since our 13 October comparison. Rupee prices exclude 18% GST. MyPract facts come from our facts page; see the compare page for head-to-head comparisons.

Frequently asked questions

Is there completely free practice management software for CA firms in India?

Not among the CA-specific tools we checked, unless you are a Zoho partner, in which case Zoho Practice is free. Jamku discontinued its free licence from 1 September 2018. General tools such as Trello, ClickUp and Zoho Projects have free plans, and Zoho Invoice is free for Indian businesses, but none of them is built for CA compliance work.

What is the difference between a free plan and a free trial?

A free plan has no end date but has limits on users, boards, storage or features. A free trial gives you the paid product for a fixed period, after which you pay or stop. Check whether a trial needs a card and whether it converts to a paid plan automatically.

How long is MyPract's free trial?

Three months. It is opt-in, needs no card and never converts to a paid plan automatically. When it ends, the workspace becomes read-only until a plan is bought, and your data stays available for export for 30 days. See the facts page.

Is open-source practice management software an option?

Odoo describes itself as a suite of open-source business apps, and its One App Free plan gives unlimited users one app, such as Project, on Odoo Online. It is a general business tool, so you would set up client records, compliance tasks and billing yourself.

Is a spreadsheet good enough for a sole practitioner?

Often, yes, for a handful of clients. A shared sheet with due dates, owners and status, plus a calendar, can work. It starts to fail once several people edit it, recurring dates multiply, or you need to see who changed what.
